1 Samuel 4 - 7
The Holiness of God - Pentecost 2026

In 1 Samuel 4–7, Israel learns a difficult but important truth: God’s presence cannot be manipulated, contained, or treated casually. The Ark of the Covenant—representing the holiness and presence of God—had become something people tried to use like a good luck charm instead of honoring the God behind it. Yet even in Israel’s failure, God remained faithful, calling His people back to repentance and renewal. Through Samuel’s leadership, the people confess their sin, abandon idols, and seek the Lord wholeheartedly. In response, God intervenes powerfully, bringing deliverance and reminding His people that true revival begins with repentance, prayer, and dependence on Him.

On Pentecost Sunday, this ancient story takes on even deeper meaning. The same God whose presence once dwelled above the Mercy Seat of the Ark now dwells within His people through the Holy Spirit. What was once contained in a sacred place became a living reality in the hearts of believers. Pentecost reminds us that God is still drawing people out of slavery to sin and into new life, still reviving hearts that seek Him, and still filling what we lack with His grace. But revival does not happen accidentally—it comes through confession, intentional prayer, and gathering with God’s people. The challenge for us is simple but profound: Are we carving out space in our lives to seek God deeply enough to experience His presence, peace, and transforming power?
